London Borough of Harrow is seeking an exceptional and forward-thinking leader to join our Corporate Leadership Team as Strategic Director for Culture, Environment and Economy. This is a pivotal role, offering a unique chance to influence by leading services that are critical to the wellbeing of our residents and the borough's long-term sustainability.
At the heart of this role is the environment, where you will lead efforts to maintain and improve Harrow's cherished parks, green spaces, and public realm. Our residents take great pride in the borough's appearance, valuing cleanliness, safety, and access to well-kept spaces. You will drive initiatives to ensure Harrow remains a pleasant and vibrant place to live. Alongside this, you will manage essential services, including waste management, highways, and public protection, ensuring they are delivered to the highest standards and with operational efficiency.
Harrow is proud of its rich cultural heritage, which includes gems like Headstone Manor and our network of libraries and arts services. You will have the opportunity to elevate these cultural assets, preserving and enhancing them for future generations while ensuring they continue to engage and inspire our diverse community. The borough faces the exciting yet challenging task of modernising its leisure infrastructure, with an ageing leisure centre in need of redevelopment. You will work closely with elected members, residents, and stakeholders to develop innovative, sustainable solutions that deliver state-of-the-art leisure services, fostering healthier lifestyles and stronger community engagement.
Collaboration is key in this role. Harrow operates as a one-council organisation, and you will need to work across departments to ensure integrated service delivery. Your leadership will be crucial in breaking down silos, encouraging cross-council cooperation, and maintaining strong relationships with unions and external partners. We expect you to manage budgets effectively, ensuring services provide value for money while meeting the high expectations of our residents.
Harrow is one of London's most diverse boroughs, and we are committed to ensuring that our leadership reflects and understands the communities we serve. We are looking for a leader who not only values diversity but also champions inclusion and equality across all aspects of council services.
This is an outstanding opportunity for someone who is ready to take on a significant leadership role and shape the future of our borough. Whether you are an established senior leader or an emerging talent with the ambition to step up, this role offers the chance to leave a lasting legacy for Harrow's residents and its services.
If you are passionate about leading positive change and are ready to contribute to a borough with high ambitions, we would love to hear from you. Join us in creating a brighter future for Harrow, where culture, environment, and community thrive.
