Job Requirements/Description

St Margaret’s Hospice Care has a fantastic opportunity for a Bank Specialist Occupational Therapist to join our multi-disciplinary palliative care team. Working on a bank basis, you will receive £21.19 per hour.

You will work cross county, primarily in the west of Somerset, to deliver responsive care to patients with life limiting conditions. The majority of our patients are cared for at home and you will play a vital role in ensuring they have all the safe systems of equipment and adaptations to facilitate this, using person centred assessment of needs and risks, as well as Moving and Handling support plans.

What can you expect to be doing?

  • We support palliative patients at all stages of their journey, from diagnosis to end stage disease, offering preventative, restorative, supportive and palliative rehabilitation and intervention – and you will be a key part of that.
  • Paying attention to detail, you will tailor plans and advocate for what is important to them, helping them to achieve their goals and alleviate distress.

Your day-to-day role will involve:

  • Supporting patients in a variety of settings; including in-patient, day centre and in their own homes.
  • Using a holistic approach, you will undertake assessments as well as plan and deliver high quality patient care.
  • Helping to evaluate and develop our services using your OT expertise.
  • Working collaboratively with all members of the St Margaret’s hospice team and external agencies
  • Supporting the safe discharge of patients from the in-patient unit.
  • Part of this role also includes supporting and overseeing the OT related work of our support workers.

What kind of experience or qualifications do I need?

We offer ongoing support, training and guidance to help you be the best you can be.

You will:

  • Be a qualified Occupational Therapist and be registered with HCPC
  • Have experience of working in a health and/or social care setting, preferably palliative care
  • Be knowledgeable about issues relating to end of life, loss and bereavement
  • Be continuously striving for high quality care for those we support
  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Have self-awareness and resilience skills
  • This role will involve traveling across the county, including with equipment. As such travel is an essential requirement.

Benefits

Be part of a welcoming, community minded charity. Our mission is to provide excellent specialist palliative care for patients and support to their families. Everyone here contributes and has a part to play towards our goal. If you speak to any of our staff or volunteers, they will tell you how the patient is at the heart of everything they do. So, if you’re looking for a role where you can really make a difference, working as part of a supportive team, we could be a perfect match.
