Job Requirements/Description

The Archdiocese of Westminster wishes to appoint a ‘Caretaker and Maintenance Operative’ for the SPEC Retreat Centre in Pinner.

Who are we?

We are the Roman Catholic Diocese of Westminster, a faith-based charity with offices close to Victoria Train and Underground Station and just a short walk from St James Park and Westminster Underground stations.

We are home to the Archbishop of Westminster (Cardinal Vincent Nichols) & our beautiful Westminster Cathedral. We are one of the leading Catholic dioceses in the country, delivering our charitable mission through our network of 208 schools in which over 90,000 pupils attend daily, 212 parishes and several hundred social justice initiatives. We seek to positively impact the lives of all members of society.

Our core values are Competence, Reliability, Honesty, Perseverance & Love.

Our values are at the centre of everything we do and as such we are looking for a Parish Secretary who is able to clearly demonstrate and evidence them.

What you’ll be doing

The main purpose of the role is to offer a clean and safe environment for the staff, volunteers and guests at SPEC Retreat Centre that meet all the necessary regulatory and legal requirements to the highest standards. The ideal candidate will have relevant experience of caretaking and large building maintenance in an office and hospitality setting; and ideally possess a professional qualification or its equivalent.

Applicants should have some understanding of how retreat centers work and be able to work in the environment where children and young people are present; and have the right to work in the UK.

The role is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS Enhanced Level Disclosure and Barred List check.

This means there’s lots to get involved in – and to be excited about.

We welcome applications from practicing Roman Catholics, those of other faiths, or none. What we require above all else is that you respect the values we share to help others and support decent and dignified work for all without prejudice.

What we offer you

In return for your hard work and commitment to us, you will receive a competitive reward package which will include, but is not limited to:

  • Life Assurance
  • Access to Healthcare Cash Plan
  • Discounts scheme through Reward Gateway – shopping, restaurants, cinema tickets gift cards and much more
  • Specsavers Eye Care Vouchers
  • Season Ticket Loan
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Access to low-cost loans with Churches Mutual
  • Employee assistance programme– free, independent 24/7 help and advice for work-related issues as well as problems affecting home life
