Role

The Rapid Re-accommodation Welcome Centre provides emergency accommodation with support to anyone who would otherwise be rough sleeping in Edinburgh. We are looking for a Project Worker to join the Welcome Centre on a full-time Night Shift Project Worker working from 7:45 pm to 8:00 am with a work pattern of 7 days on and 7 days off.

The Welcome Centre opens in October 2024 and closes in April 2025.

The role involves working 12-hour night shifts, and responsibilities include:

  • Working alongside partner agencies to build support plans for individuals who are staying at the centre to help move guests on to more long-term accommodation
  • Providing advice and information to guests, particularly on housing issues
  • Ensuring premises are prepared for the reception of guests, monitoring admissions, signing in new guests
  • Supervising guest areas and ensuring that there is order and cleanliness
  • Conducting welfare checks

We are looking for candidates with the following knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Experience working with vulnerable and homeless people
  • An understanding of mental health and addiction issues
  • Ability to deal appropriately with challenging behaviour
  • An SVQ level 3 in Care/Promoting Independence or equivalent is desirable
  • Administrative skills and experience in the use of Microsoft Office packages, especially Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility to respond to a changing environment
  • Ability to maintain clear & accurate records
  • Successful applicants for this post will require membership in the PVG scheme.

Details

Starting salary: £14.29 per hour

Contract: Full-time (39.375 hours per week), Fixed Term – until 30 April 2025

Holiday entitlement: 225 hours per year pro rata
