About the role

It’s knowing your skills are helping to maintain historic landmarks

It’s ensuring that everything runs smoothly behind the scenes of some of the world’s most iconic buildings. This is what makes working as a Maintenance Electrician for the Royal Household so different.

As part of our expert Property Section team, you’ll help care for and maintain the buildings that make up The King’s official residences. With the privilege of working on a diverse and historic estate, including Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace, St James’s Palace, and Clarence House, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the electrical systems are well maintained, operational and ready to support the various activities and events which take place within the buildings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • You’ll carry out electrical fault finding, repairs, minor installations and testing of electrical systems across the Estate, under the guidance of the in-house Supervisors.
  • You’ll carry out routine planned maintenance tasks and minor reactive repairs, identifying parts and spares required and reporting major issues as needed, working closely with the in-house Helpdesk and Planned Maintenance teams.
  • You’ll help prepare and ensure safety checks are completed for state, ceremonial, official functions and other events, staying on-site to resolve any issues and ensure equipment is safely secured after events.
  • You’ll support the supervision of contractors working on various activities across the Estate, including overseeing and escorting them around the premises.

Working in such a prestigious environment, you’ll use your skills to contribute to the efficient running of day to day operations and help preserve these remarkable buildings for generations to come.

About You:

  • Qualified to C&G Level 3 in Electrical Installations / maintenance, C&G 2391 Inspection and Testing and C&G 2382 IET Wiring Regulations (18th Edition), you’ll bring a solid understanding of electrical installations and repairs.
  • You’ll have experience in building maintenance, ideally in historic or listed buildings, and a passion for providing the highest standards of maintenance services with the ability to respond to and resolve day to day problems as they arise.
  • You’re approachable, flexible, and have a ‘can-do’ attitude that allows you to adapt to a wide variety of tasks.
  • Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach are essential, as you’ll interact with both internal teams and external contractors.
  • A full driving license is desirable
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends particularly when major events or functions are held, to cover out of hours maintenance works or in response to operational emergencies.
  • You’ll also be IT literate, with experience of Microsoft Office applications, and ideally have experience using a CAFM system and handheld devices for task management.
