About the Role
This role will lead the development of raw materials supplier process decarbonisation strategy, focusing in particular on those supplied raw materials with the greatest carbon footprint (neutral spirit, malt and sugar), and working closely with the water, nature and agriculture team and procurement teams to ensure decarbonisation approaches are complementary and aligned, and the appropriate supplier engagement strategy is in place.
Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Understand and map C emissions footprint for the supplier processes for the relevant raw materials (neutral spirit, malt, sugar)
- Find opportunities for decarbonisation and a hierarchy of preference based on availability, cost, complexity, legislation, and other relevant factors.
- Work with the regenerative agriculture leads to understand and prioritise the role of regenerative agriculture in raw material decarbonisation to complement supplier process decarbonisation.
- Work with procurement category teams to understand the role of sourcing strategy and supplier engagement in the achievement of raw material decarbonisation.
- Develop best practice guidelines and guardrails for decarbonisation of the priority raw materials informed by the factors above.
- Support strategy and integration team to create policies and standards to govern our approach to decarbonisation of supplier processes.
- Support markets and categories teams to develop their scope 3 decarbonisation roadmaps through the provision of subject matter expertise and best practice guidance and decision-making support.
- Contribute to the development of Diageo’s Net Zero Transition Plan (NZTP) for supplied raw materials.
Skills and Experience Required
- Understanding of Diageo operations and supply chain, particularly in relation to procurement and use of supplied raw materials especially neutral spirit, malt and sugar.
- Expert knowledge of carbon footprint of raw materials processes and options for decarbonisation solutions and their advantages, disadvantages, risks, and opportunities
- Ability to think strategically and communicate strategy in an engaging and understandable way, at all organisational levels.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across functions and markets to reach alignment on raw material decarbonisation strategy and associated roles and responsibilities in its application.
