The Commis Chef assists in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of food in accordance with the established standards and recipes. This role involves learning and performing various kitchen tasks, ensuring cleanliness, and maintaining kitchen equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

Food Preparation and Cooking:

  • Assist in the preparation and cooking of dishes as directed by the Chef de Partie or other senior chefs.
  • Measure ingredients and prepare them according to recipes.
  • Ensure that food preparation areas are clean and hygienic.

Kitchen Maintenance and Hygiene:

  • Maintain a clean and organized work station.
  • Follow all hygiene and sanitation procedures to ensure a safe and sanitary kitchen environment.
  • Assist in the cleaning of kitchen equipment, utensils, and surfaces.

Inventory Management:

  • Help in the storage and organization of food supplies.
  • Assist in the inventory management of ingredients and supplies, ensuring proper stock levels are maintained.

Learning and Development:

  • Learn and understand the recipes and cooking techniques used in the kitchen.
  • Seek to improve culinary skills and knowledge by observing and practicing under the guidance of senior chefs.

Team Collaboration:

  • Work closely with other members of the kitchen team to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and superiors to ensure efficient service delivery.

Adherence to Standards:

  • Follow the established food safety and quality standards.
  • Ensure that all dishes are prepared and presented to the highest standards.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Culinary Education: A culinary degree or diploma is advantageous but not always required.
  • Experience: Previous kitchen experience is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Skills: Basic knowledge of food preparation and cooking techniques, good knife skills, and an understanding of kitchen safety and hygiene practices.
  • Personal Attributes: Eager to learn, hardworking, punctual, reliable, and able to work well under pressure.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy objects, and perform physically demanding tasks.

Working Conditions:
