Job title: Principal Engineering Manager – Submarine Build and Test

What you’ll be doing:

  • Providing engineering leadership and expertise in support of Programmes, Projects and critical Boat build phases
  • Management of Configuration management, technical risks and opportunities
  • Ensuring design integrity and safety for primary plant integration, major primary systems and critical components
  • Developing and maintaining the team’s capability to discharge their roles across various Engineering disciplines
  • Leading improvements in Process’, Toolsets, Plant and Teams to enhance team objectives and thus submarines Primary system safety, cost and Programme schedule
  • Driving a suitable Product facing operating model that can strike a balance between responding to emerging technical issues whilst equally striving to prevent/ reduce them through root cause analysis/embedding of Engineering LFE
  • Liaising with key stakeholders across the Submarines Enterprise to share and embed any improvements

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • Previous Senior Management experience or involvement in leading Engineering teams within a Manufacturing type environment
  • Degree Qualified in an Engineering discipline or suitable equivalent
  • Knowledge and experience of the nuclear industry and Nuclear Regulations
  • Engineering lifecycle management experience

Desirable:

  • Chartered Engineer or equivalent working experience
  • Nuclear Propulsion Plant lifecycle management
  • Submarine Primary system knowledge and Experience

The Platform Submarine Nuclear Engineering team:

The Platform Nuclear Engineering Department is a growing capability to accommodate the growing Nuclear Engineering demand on the business, as the shipyard takes on an unprecedented challenge of delivering multiple classes of Naval Reactor Plant. The team conversing activities ranging from design safety assurance, engineering/technical problem solving to practical innovation and improvement projects across the Engineering Lifecycle with a strong focus on the Design, Build and Commission of the reactor plant. There is ample opportunity for professional development and career progression. We offer relocation support across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
