What is the Role?

SSE Thermal is recruiting for an Assistant Accountant to join the team. This is an exciting time to join as SSE Thermal positions itself to be the leading provider of flexible energy in a low carbon world. The role will deliver financial support across the portfolio, with varied tasks in a complex and fast paced commercial and political arena.

  • Month end analysis and accounting as well as P&L analysis, posting journals for accruals, prepayments etc. 
  • Maintaining Balance Sheet account reconciliations highlighting and investigating material variances.
  • Assisting in the preparation of Statutory reporting and supporting the Audit process.
  • Preparation of VAT returns and other reporting requirements.
  • Involvement in varied Project work, a requirement to complete ad hoc duties and to seek continuous improvement opportunities to support the business.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • A strong grasp of accounting fundamentals e.g. accruals/prepayments, balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Diligent and self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision and have good attention to detail.
  • A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement .
  • An awareness of current regulations including IFRS.
  • Preferably be studying towards an appropriate accounting qualification (ICAS, ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA) or be qualified by experience in a similar role.
