Job Requirements/Description

About the role

The Carbon Manager leads the implementation of our decarbonisation roadmap and works with teams across the airport to align the airport’s capital projects, investments, aviation growth and business activities with our net zero pathway. You’ll be part of a team of 3, fitting into our wider Communications team, and we’re looking for someone who can be based in the office 3 days a week, with flexibility to work 2 days from home.

The role includes working with internal colleagues across the campus such as the engineering team, the finance team and airside operations to gather data and drive forward decarbonisation initiatives. Additionally, the role involves collaborating with external stakeholders who have a presence at the airport (such as airlines, ground handlers, public transport providers) to collect data and to share updates, in addition to the local council and the wider Scottish Government. This is a data driven role which includes the development and management of tools to report on decarbonisation progress against our net zero targets and to forecast the impact of new activities and projects on our carbon footprint.

What you’ll be doing

  • Support ongoing decarbonisation activities on campus including those highlighted in our Greater Good sustainability strategy to progress the airport’s Zero Carbon pillar.
  • Develop and analyse emission performance indicators through a decarbonisation dashboard and investigate when we are not on track.
  • Work with internal stakeholders (such as the Capital Projects, Procurement and Engineering teams) to bring about project ideas and proposals to decarbonise scope 1 & 2 emission sources and our supply chain.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders (such as suppliers, airlines, ground handlers, public transport providers, academia and Scottish Government) to reduce our scope 3 emissions.
  • Lead the application and maintenance of Edinburgh Airport’s certification with the Airport Carbon Accreditation scheme.
  • Develop annual reports for shareholders and external audiences, and maintain the airport’s Carbon Management Plan and Carbon Policy.
  • Horizon scanning for new sustainability innovations & partnerships to help to build a sustainability knowledge base and drive engagement at the airport.

What we’ll offer you

  • Flexible working- whether that’s hybrid or flexible hours, we’ll help you find an option that suits you
  • Paid support and training to become a member of IEMA
  • Pension scheme- employer contributions can be up to 7%
  • Annual discretionary bonus
  • Employee EV scheme with preferential charge rates
  • Supporting your health and wellbeing- private healthcare after 1 years’ service, access to our Employee Assistance Programme and occupational health services
  • 32 days holiday, increasing with service
  • Free car parking on site and when you go on holiday
